New Chatham Antique BarnFront Facade
This new, 7,800 SF home is constructed on a portion of the original Leland Stanford estate in Fremont, California.

On the exterior, precast concrete elements with limestone finish were judiciously used to articulate the entry and ground floor fenestration along the front facade.

The interior strategy was to install an attractive yet understated stone floor throughout the house, an attractive wood ceiling in formal spaces and an attractive yet simple and affordable sand-finish plaster veneer on wall surfaces. Then we simply sat back and let the client’s art collection speak for itself.

A modular system for the wood ceiling was developed, with careful architectural planning, to minimize costs and speed construction. The precast concrete fireplace mantel echoes exterior detailing at the entry to unify outside and inside experiences.

The grand piano in the living room was not part of the original building program. Several months after construction, the client returned, desiring an addition room off the dining and living rooms, one for the grand piano. Now, everything is perfect!
